YAMAHA’S RX-N600 NETWORK RECEIVER PROVIDES A GATEWAY

TO THE INTEGRATED DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE

—Yamaha’s Digital Home Theater Receiver Allows Playback of Content From a PC, an iPod, XM Satellite Radio and Internet Radio, and Yamaha’s MusicCAST System—

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Yamaha Electronics Corporation’s RX-N600 digital home theater receiver features network connectivity that allows music enthusiasts to access and play back audio content via an array of sources throughout the home. The model’s LAN (Ethernet) connection terminal and Windows Media Connect ver.2 technology allows consumers to play MP3, WMA and WAV audio files as well as content from radio stations that broadcasts over the Internet from a remote PC. Optional accessories allow playback of audio and video content from an Apple iPod and XM Satellite Radio – including XM HD Surround programming. Members of the press can see the RX-N600 at Yamaha’s booth (#12128) at the International Consumer Electronics Show.

The RX-N600 can also seamlessly integrate with Yamaha’s MCX-2000 server as a remote client/controller for a separate room or zone within the company’s premier MusicCAST audio distribution system. The MCX-2000 has a maximum hard drive capacity of 2,000-plus hours of music, roughly equivalent to 40,000 songs. The RX-N600’s on-screen display shows playback status information from all devices to which it is connected (iPod, PC, Internet radio, XM Satellite Radio and MusicCAST system).

Most iPods, with the exception of some early models and the current iPod Shuffle™, connect easily to Yamaha’s RX-N600 receiver via an optional iPod docking station (Yamaha YDS-10). Once docked, the iPod can be operated (song selection, play, etc.) via the receiver’s remote control. Another simple connection allows users to view the iPod’s video, pictures and operating status (song title, artist, etc.) on a television monitor. In addition, docked iPods are automatically charged so that they are ready to be taken on the go at all times.

Rounding out its unprecedented versatility, a USB terminal on the front of the unit makes it easy to play music from USB flash drives and portable USB music players.

Yamaha’s proprietary Compressed Music Enhancer technology improves the music quality of audio files that are stripped of some high and low frequency detail during the process of being “ripped” or downloaded onto an iPod or MP3 player. The result is a more natural sounding listening experience that better recreates the original music performance when experienced through home speakers.

XM HD Surround from XM Satellite Radio delivers audio programming in full 5.1 channel surround sound. An XM Passport, sold separately, is the only accessory XM Satellite Radio subscribers need to enjoy this content, along with the company’s 160-plus standard service channels. Neural Surround™ technology enhances the experience of XM HD Surround, delivering a detailed sound stage with superior 5.1 channel separation.

The RX-N600 features Yamaha’s robust signature sound decoding package, including all Dolby and DTS formats and Quad-Field Cinema DSP. All models also have high-current discrete amplification for the highest quality sound reproduction, and an easy-to-use setup menu with 5-band center channel EQ. Yamaha’s Digital ToP-ART Technology combines high current amplification with superior components to achieve high current power with low impedance from the power supply to speaker terminals. In addition, 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters for all six channels provide accurate sound field reproduction for multi-channel sources and outstanding separation and precise musical delineation for two- channel stereo sources.

Yamaha’s advanced Quad-Field Cinema DSP system provides a choice of 14 realistic-sounding surround programs, and is capable of delivering 6.1 channels of sound that are compatible with all the latest surround sound formats. With SILENT CINEMA mode, users can enjoy surround-like sound through headphones. A Night Listening Enhancer ensures that all programs (including Dolby Pro Logic IIx) sound natural through speakers at lower volume levels.

Input/output connections include three optical and one coaxial input terminals, an optical output terminal, front-panel A/V inputs with a USB input, three component video inputs and one output with HDTV 720p/1080i compatibility, four total video inputs and two outputs, three S-video inputs and 1 S-video output. A rear LAN terminal connects the receiver to the PC and home network.

The RX-N600 includes full component video-up conversion from composite and S-video to component, providing high-quality picture from all video components connected to the receiver. The unit ships with a preset remote control.

The RX-N600 is currently available for a suggested retail price of $599.99.
